After years of spring seasonal calving and raising calves in large groups, the Bylers began looking for a more natural approach. Today, their organic 240 cow milking herd operates on a bi-seasonal calving system, with nurse cows raising calves on pasture.

During this event, we’ll learn how they handle calves from day one, including their protocols for bull and beef calves, colostrum management, and getting calves started successfully. We’ll see their calf/nurse cow training area and learn how they introduce and manage cows in the system. We’ll also tour the nurse cow group and see that system in action! 

You’ll hear their observations with large group milk-bar systems and why they ultimately decided this system is a better fit. Thrifty calves, healthier cows, and a calmer, more natural way to raise youngstock!

Peachee Farm started grazing in 1995 and transitioned to organic in 2025. They are a seasonal grazing dairy and their cattles are housed outside year-round. The farm sits on 150 acres of permanent pasture and another 100+ acres used to grow crops for winter feed and extending the grazing platform using temporary fence. Their products are shipped to Organic Valley.

Garett moved to New Zealand to pursue his education in dairy grazing and now farms with his father, successfully participating in a succession plan. 

Established mentors in Pasa's Dairy Grazing Apprenticeship, Peachee Farm also just had their second successful apprentice graduate.
