Cover Crops for Building Soil Health

Tuesday, October 6
5:30–7:30 pm

Cost: Free

Growing Groceries Community Plot
1618 S 20th St. Philadelphia, PA 19145
About the workshop

Improve the next growing season by building your soil structure while taking a winter break!

During this workshop, you’ll learn how to take advantage of building soil organic matter, tackling weeds, and building nitrogen while planting cover crops. Farmer Shawn of Dirty South Farms will cover sowing timelines, cover crop seed selection, spacing, and how to prevent frost damage with simple tricks.

This workshop is for folks of all growing sizes, including backyard plots, urban farmers, and even a tree pit! It is meant for those who want to learn new skills or brush up on planting cover crops!

Enjoy some hot cider, share a meal, and connect with other South Philly growers and growers in surrounding areas! Plus, take cover crop seeds home with you to try in your own growing space.
