About the event

Spend an afternoon at Dickinson College Farm and hear how soil health data has informed their growing practice. Dickinson College Farm has prioritized soil health for nearly the entire 20 years that their Certified Organic vegetable operation has existed. However, this doesn’t mean that they’ve been farming the same way all those years! During this farm tour, head farmer Alex Smith will share reflections about how Dickinson’s practices have shifted after years of observation, experience, and insights from their own farm data, including from their long-time collaboration in Pasa’s Soil Health Benchmark Study. Alex will talk about changes they are making with equipment and crop rotations, as well as share some of the farm’s soil health metrics over time. We’ll start our afternoon with a background presentation and data sharing and transition to a farm tour highlighting changes they are making on the farm. Come away with new soil health insights and ideas on improvements you can make on your operation—plus, you'll receive a free Cornell Soil Health Manual! About Dickinson College Farm

Dickinson College Farm was founded in 2007 and is located in south central Pennsylvania. For nearly 20 years, the farm has supplied organic vegetables and pasture-raised meat to the Dickinson College campus and surrounding community, as well as research, farming, and learning opportunities to students of all ages.

  • Attendees will walk on sloped, uneven and unpaved terrains. 
  • There will be seating for a portion of the event. 
  • The speaker will use a microphone. Attendees will be in direct sun for a portion of the event.
