Riparian Buffer Planting

Monday, October 6
10 am - 4 pm

Cost: $10
About the event

Help us plant trees at Tall Pines Farms and learn how to implement agroforestry conservation practices on a real working farm!

During this workshop, we’ll help the Wagoner family enhance their grassfed beef and lamb operation by establishing a riparian buffer along the creek running through their property. You’ll learn about integrating riparian buffers with rotational grazing systems, understand key design considerations for maintaining livestock access while protecting waterways, and discover aftercare practices that maximize survival and growth rates. You’ll get hands-on experience with proper tree planting techniques and see how conservation practices strengthen grassfed operations.

Whether you’re managing your own grazing operation, working with livestock farmers on conservation projects, or simply wanting to support a farm family’s commitment to sustainable agriculture, this event offers valuable learning experience and the satisfaction of contributing to a lasting conservation project.

This event is sponsored by NASDA/EPA

About the speaker

The workshop will be led by Alysha Trexler, a Watershed Project Manager from the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy. Alysha has nearly two decades of experience managing watershed projects and has helped plant thousands of trees across conservation sites throughout the region.
About the farm

Tall Pines Farms is a fourth-generation family farm in Darlington, Pennsylvania. Like many farms in the region, Tall Pines is home to all manner of animals over the years, including cows with access to the nearby creek. This project represents a big change for the farm—one that the family has grown to believe will be an important part of leaving the farm in a better state for future generations.
